Rice Lake's Montessori Program

The Rice Lake Area School District is proud to offer one of the finest Montessori Programs in Northwest Wisconsin. Utilizing two classrooms at Tainter Elementary School, the Montessori students are separated into two groups, the 4k through kindergartners, taught by Ashlie Kneifl, and the first through third graders, taught by Barbara Smith. The Montessori students have art, music, gym and recess with the conventionally taught students at Tainter.

Montessori

The Montessori style of education includes multi-age groupings that foster peer learning, uninterrupted blocks of work time, and guided choice of work activity. When older students teach younger students, it reinforces the skills they’ve already mastered, and fosters a caring community environment.

Montessori

The teacher, child, and environment create a learning triangle. The classroom is prepared by the teacher to encourage independence, freedom within limits, and a sense of order. The child, through individual choice, makes use of what the environment offers to develop himself, interacting with the teacher when support and/or guidance is needed. Montessori teachers provide environments where students have the freedom and the tools to pursue answers to their own questions.

Montessori students learn to think critically, work collaboratively, and act boldly – a skill set ready-made for the 21st century.
